What is the difference between chiropractors and physiotherapists?

I often Chiropractor. Brisbane CBD Chiro. Chiropractor Brisbane Cityget asked what is the difference between chiropractors and physiotherapists and it is certainly a good question. Chiropractors and physios will often treat similar injuries but use quite different approaches. Obviously it is difficult to generalise how all chiropractors and physios treat the body as each practitioner will have their own unique set of skills and treatment techniques. In general physiotherapists tend to focus on treating soft tissue injuries. They do this with a number of modalities and will often provide rehabilitation programmes as well to strengthen any muscular weaknesses.

Chiropractors are slightly different. Chiropractors have a specific focus on correcting structural problems and joint injuries. We treat these injuries using chiropractic adjustments which are specific short lever impulses into the spine or extremity joints. Because of the connection between the spine and the nervous system these impulses into the joint will also have a positive influence on how the nervous system is functioning. I often refer to the spine and the pelvis as the foundation of the body. If there are any misalignments or imbalances in the spine this creates as unstable foundation, which can lead to aches and pains or injury. Chiropractic adjustments can help to provide balance and stability to the spine therefore assisting with healing.

In general I do believe that physio and chiropractic are quite complimentary. Chiropractors can focus on enhancing joint alignment and nervous system function while the physios can provide rehabilitation and soft tissue management.
