Q and A with Fitness First Elizabeth Street PT Rob Simms-Reeve

I have teamed up with a great personal trainer this week, Rob Simms- Reeve from Fitness First Elizabeth Street to give some great health and training tips. I love that my chiropractic practice is based from this gym as I have access to some amazing health professionals and we can work together as a team to help our clients move and preform efficiently without pain or injury. Rob is an extremely knowledgeable personal trainer and offers great one on one personal training as well as an online package. Check out his tips below!

  1. How long have you been a personal trainer at Fitness First Elizabeth Street?

I have been a personal trainer in the industry for about 15 years now and at Fitness First Elizabeth Street for about 12 months. I really enjoy the facility and people I work with here.

  1. What is your training philosophy?

My training philosophy is quite simple, achieve greater alignment/mobility , breathe properly & develop control .. Your exercises & movements should help improve your bodies ability to become more efficient.

  1. What are you focusing on with your own training and your clients training?

Structural balance is crucial for a happy and healthy body. I focus on movement patterns that improve the bodies function while also improving shape & maximising fat burning. The foundation of the programme is based on resistant training with free weights & bands. I integrate corrective exercises to improve posture & alignment. I follow all the principles for myself as well to maintain optimal performance.

What is your recommended maintenance and recovery programme for yourself and your clients?

My recommended recovery program varies for different people. However generally I ensure that everyone follows the protocol:

  1. Warms up appropriately (mobility & activation drills)
  2. Train & strengthen the appropriate muscle groups
  3. Static or Active stretching with bands and the end of the session.

Then I ensure clients visit a professional chiro or Osteo, if necessary that can work on improving their alignment. I visit Miki once a fortnight or month for recovery… It’s like servicing your car, rebalancing your wheels. Achieving ideal or better alignment is so important. If this aspect of their training isn’t addressed, then it’s like driving your car with the handbrake on!! You can still move but you are losing a lot of power & wearing out your system. I recommend clients commit to their own daily mobility exercise (minimum 10 minutes a day).
