Chiro Tip: Chiropractic for hip tension

Chiropractor in Brisbane CBD. Chiropractor in Brisbane CityBeen a chiropractor in Brisbane CBD I see people visiting me on a regular basis for a number of posture related issues. A big problem for a lot of office workers is tension in the hips. The problem tends to arise from the fact the large gluteus maximus and medius muscles have a tendency to switch off and stop working when people sit down. These muscles are slow twitch postural muscles which means they are designed to work constantly when we are standing or walking around. When we sit for any length of time these large stabilisers will switch off and become lazy which can lead to a number of issues such as hip pain and tension, lower back pain and referred pain down the leg.

Hip Stretch

Chiropractic for hip tension

There are a number of solutions to assist with hip tension associated with sitting for long periods of time. Stretching out the tight muscles or using a trigger point ball on the affected areas are things you can do yourself. For more chronic problems chiropractic treatment may be helpful. Chiropractors can adjust the hips, sacroiliac joints and lumbar spine to remove tension from the joints surrounding the glutes and correct any misalignments. Chiropractors can also preform soft tissue work on the glute max/med to remove active trigger points from the muscles or refer out to a massage therapist if necessary. Getting the right sort of treatment is a good way to ensure that small aches and pains don’t become long term problems.
