ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE (ART)
Active release technique is a unique movement based soft tissue technique that treats muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. ART is extremely popular with top athletes, teams, and strength and conditioning coaches such as Charles Poliquin in the USA and Canada but is still relatively unknown in Australia.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Over used and injured muscles produce dense, tough areas of scar tissue. This scar tissues restricts normal muscle range of motion and can lead to pain and weakness, tendonitis or nerve entrapments. Active release aims to break down these areas of scar tissue to reduce pain and restore full range of motion and function.
WHAT CAN ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE TREAT
Miki is one of the few practitioners in Brisbane who is qualified in upper extremity ART protocols. This means Miki is able to treat patients with a range of upper limb injuries such as
- Rotator cuff injuries
- Shoulder impingement
- Repetitive strain injuries- These are common in office workers
- Tennis or golfer’s elbow
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Shoulder, elbow and wrist pain
- Thoracic pain- pain between the shoulder blades
- Nerve entrapments- Pin and needles or numbness
